International Scope

Thanks to the focus on common and civil law, the Law Center has an extensive scope of international people and programs.

On Campus

  • The Russell B. Long Eminent Scholars Academic Chair: The first holder of the chair is distinguished comparativist Olivier Moreteau, who comes to LSU from the Universite Jean Moulin Lyon 3, in Lyon, France. He joined the faculty in Fall 2005.
  • The Distinguished Global Visitors Program: Law professors, deans, judges, practicing attorneys, and other leaders from around the world offer courses in Baton Rouge, ranging from three weeks to an entire semester.
  • Exploring Careers: The Civilian Society hosts panels and other sessions outlining international legal opportunities available in Louisiana, featuring leading attorneys in the state who work on cases and issues involving international law.

Abroad

  • Summer in France: The LSU Summer in France program is the second largest program sponsored by an American school abroad.
  • Student Exchange: Spend a semester abroad in Belgium, France, Argentina, or Peru.
  • International Internships: Opportunities with law firms, courts, or other governmental bodies exist in Argentina and Costa Rica; the program is expanding to other areas.

The World in Baton Rouge

  • International Students on Campus: Ranked #2 among public universities in the U.S., the LL.M. program attracts many eminent professionals from across the globe to the Baton Rouge campus. Exchange students also attend LSU Law. Among the countries represented in the two programs are Argentina, China, France, Italy, The Netherlands, Nigeria, Pakistan, Panama, Romania, and Russia
  • Continuing International Education Program: Brings international visitors who represent industry, government, and law firms to spend a week at the Law Center hearing from faculty and guest lecturers on the civil and common law traditions in Louisiana..
