Important Notice Regarding Exam Software
- Exam4 will no longer be available for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard as of September 1, 2013. If your computer is running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, it would be advisable to switch your operating system before the fall 2013 exam period.
- Exam4 will not be supported on Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks for fall 2013 exams. Major operating system changes can cause unforeseen problems with exam software which may require additional programming and testing. To ensure greater reliability, the makers of exam software usually delay support for new operating systems for several months after the official release dates. This means that Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks will not be supported by Exam4 for fall 2013 semester exams. Please keep this in mind and consider delaying any upgrades to this operating system until after the fall 2013 semester. Regarding purchases of new computers, it would be advisable to avoid models that come with Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks until after the fall 2013 semester. As a reminder, Exam4 currently supports Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8.1 (excluding Surface Pro), Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, and Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.
At the discretion of each faculty member, students will be able to take final exams using laptop computers. The Law Center provides the Exam4 software by Extegrity to students who choose to take their final exams on their personal laptop. At the end of each semester approximately two weeks before final exams begin, the software will become available to law students to download. Students will receive an email at this time indicating this. Each semester there is a new version of the software that contains that semester’s class list. All prior versions of the software from earlier semesters are time locked and will not work. Make sure to download the proper version of the software for your operating system (Windows or Mac).
Once you have downloaded the software, run a practice exam all the way through the exam submission process to verify the software is working properly. Do not type any material in your practice exam that you wish to review later because you cannot re-open the exam once it has been closed. Also, verify that you choose “Practice Exam” for the course when running a practice exam in the software.
If you encounter any problems, take your laptop to IT in Room 317 to have the problem corrected. You must use the Exam4 software for all exams taken by computer “in-class”, i.e., at the Law Center during the scheduled exam period. The use of any other word processor such as Word or WordPerfect is prohibited.
IT support will be available to ensure that all exams are started, ended, and submitted properly. Please replace any faulty power cords or batteries well before exams begin if you feel they will be problematic during exams. Please also ensure that your laptop is connected to the lsusecure wireless network before the exam. To help avoid computer problems during your exams, please ensure that your Windows updates and antivirus software are current.
