At this year’s Chancellor Council Dinner, the Law Center paid tribute to decades of Law Center graduates who have valiantly and faithfully served our nation.A highlight of the evening was the viewing of a Louisiana Public Broadcasting/Law Center-produced video tribute to our veterans. Featured in the video are seven outstanding LSU Law graduates: John P. Laborde (’49), Honorable Thomas Stagg (’49), William Meyers (’48), W. Arthur Abercrombie (’69), Norma Bennett (’00), David LaCerte (’08), and Lauren Wolfe (’12). Sadly, Mr. Meyers passed away on February 22, 2013 not long after the taping of the video. The National World War II Museum’s charming vocal trio, the Victory Belles, took the crowd on a nostalgic journey through World War II-era musical classics.

The Chancellor's Council dinner recognizes alumni and friends of the LSU Law Center who are Chancellor's Council members and others who have provided major gifts to the Law Center. Annual contributions from Chancellor's Council members are used to support a variety of student and faculty activities, academic programs and alumni services. Student financial aid, facility and technology improvements, as well as other initiatives that enhance the standing of LSU Law, would not be possible without the generosity of our Chancellor's Council members and major gift donors.

On April 14, 2011, Chancellor Jack Weiss welcomed 130 scholarship donors and student scholarship recipients to the Faculty Club. The annual event honors those who helped fund scholarships at the Law Center, and the students who have benefited from that generosity. The reception also provides the Law Center an opportunity to say "thank you" to our donors, and, of course, to acknowledge our wonderful students. Chancellor Weiss also recognized the generous donors who have recently established scholarships. Some 27 new endowed and annual scholarships have been established since our last reception in 2009. Thank you to all who attended this lovely event, and for your support of the LSU Law Center Scholarship Programs.

March 25, 2011 - Baton Rouge Chancellor Jack M. Weiss announced today a gift from the John T. Nesser Family to establish the Nesser Family Endowed Chair in Energy Law. LSU Law Center alumni John T. Nesser III, J.T. Nesser IV, and Amanda Nesser Moeller established the endowed chair through a gift to the LSU Law Center's Forever LSU campaign. The Nessers' gift is the largest philanthropic gift the Law Center has ever received from a living donor and only the second endowed chair in the Center's history. It will support a major new initiative, allowing the LSU Law Center to broadly expand its already strong program in traditional oil, gas and mineral law into the vastly expanded field of 21st century energy law.

Graduates of "51 Years or Better" gathered for a lunch and reception on May 29, 2009. Dave Langford ('49) said his looks hadn't changed from his time as a student until today. Alvin Gibson ('49) remembered exams as being the worst thing about school, and Ed Lancaster ('48) said his most vivid memory of law school was Harriet "Ma" Daggett and the "weasel words" she taught them. For the uninitiated, "weasel words" are words that lawyers need to learn to weasel out of situations.
