LSU Law Center graduates and friends gathered for Alumni Weekend on October 13-14, 2006. As part of the festivities, Law Center classes of 1966, 1976, 1981, 1986, and 1996 turned out for their respective reunions. The weekend also included several opportunities for reuniting classmates and renewing old friendships by way of two free CLEs, an All Alumni Reception, and a Saturday Hats ‘n Canes tailgate party on the steps of the old law building that really rocked the house.
Class reunion committees worked tirelessly for months so if you see a classmate who served, be sure to thank them for their efforts. The Alumni Relations staff is grateful for their participation.
Friday’s events kicked off in the afternoon with free CLE courses in Ethics and Professionalism, followed by an All Alumni Reception held in the Student Lounge.
Later in the evening, individual class reunions took place at several locations around town:
The Class of 1966 held its reunion in the beautiful Tucker Room of the 1936 building. Thanks go to reunion committee members Stanwood Duvall, Gordon Rountree, Gray Sexton, and particularly Suzanne Sexton, who also picked the menu for the evening.
The Class of 1976 had its party at Bocage Racquet Club. Committee members John Feduccia, Herman Garner, Nicholas LaRocca, Mike McClelland, Frank Neuner, Steven Shea, Alfred Speer, Douglas Truxillo, and Mike Walker did a great job in generating attendance for their reunion.
The Shaw Center for the Arts was the location for both the Class of 1981 and the Class of 1986. The Class of 1981 group enjoyed a lovely reception in the art gallery. Thanks go to Guy deLaup, Pamela Moses-Laramore, Christine Frank-Noland, Kent Parsons, Mary Thompson, and Robert Wyatt for serving on the reunion committee.
The Class of 1986 had sweeping views of downtown Baton Rouge from the rooftop terrace and sculpture garden overlooking the river. The class committee made regular contact with classmates as the reunion date got closer; it consisted of Ricardo Aguilar, Ted Ayo, Karen Dugas, Ann Halphen, Lisa Hanchey, Roy Maughan, Peter Thompkins, Jack Whitehead, and Jay Young.
The Class of 1996 had the highest attendance for its party at Juban’s Restaurant.
Attendees were treated to the sophisticated jazz of 3L student Brianna Guerin
who is a regular performer at Louisiana festivals and local music venues. A
big thanks to committee members Latease Bailey, Melissa Cresson, Amy Collier-Lambert,
Jason Dupree, Suzie Mahoney, and Minor Pipes.
Alumni Weekend festivities ended with a bang on Saturday as many Law Center alumni returned to enjoy a pre-game tailgate party and the Hats ‘n Canes toast. Students brought in a band to add to the party and everyone had a great time. Vice Chancellor Cheney Joseph gave the traditional toast to the senior class and this year the class received commemorative Centennial champagne flutes to commemorate the Law Center’s 100 Years of Scholarship, Teaching, and Service.

Reunions and alumni events are wonderful opportunities to reconnect with your classmates and your law school. If you would like to participate in the planning of your class reunion, please let me know. Class committees are the key to a successful reunion!
Alumni Weekend 2007 is scheduled for September 21-22 and the Law Center will celebrate class reunions for the following years: 1967, 1977, 1982, 1987, and 1997.
If you’d like to take charge as a reunion chair or be a supporting committee member, I welcome you and look forward to your input for the 2007 reunion series.
