The LSU Law Center’s 2007 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) is schedule for three consecutive weeks this month. Sponsored by the student Tax Club, it is the only VITA site in Baton Rouge offering free income tax preparation services to foreign students, teachers, and researchers in F or J visa status.
The VITA Program will be available at the Law Center on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. on March 13-15, 20-22 and 27-29. Those seeking VITA Program services should bring copies of W-2 and/or 1042-S forms received from their Payroll Department in addition to their visa, passport, and 2005 federal income tax return if they filed last year.
As part of the VITA Program, LSU Law students have assisted more than 300 foreign students, teachers, and researchers at the university and in the Baton Rouge community in preparing federal and state income tax returns.
In late 2005, the LSU Law Center’s VITA Program was honored by the American Bar Association Student Division as the best program of its kind in the country.
