LSU System President William Jenkins was honored today at a retirement reception held at the LSU Law Center. Jenkins’ last day as system president is Friday, August 31.

Chancellor Jack Weiss presented Jenkins with a Distinguished Service Award on behalf of the Law Center, and a special plaque commemorating his leadership and vision. Weiss thanked the outgoing system president for his support of the Law Center in the crucial years when extensive renovations of the complex were needed and goals for seeking national prominence were being formulated. Chris Hester, President of the LSU Law Student Bar Association, thanked President Jenkins for his openness with the student body and for his support of the Law Center.

Jenkins will serve as President Emeritus of the LSU System throughout the next year and possibly longer. Jenkins said he plans to work closely with the LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans on health care issues and hopes to work on coastal restoration efforts. He will also stay involved in the Forever LSU fundraising campaign.
