Serving to Learn; Learning to Serve

Tari Devlon Williams of the University of Alabama Law School was the featured speaker at the November 2007 seminar coordinated by the Law Center’s Pugh Institute for Justice. Williams is the Director of Public Interest Law at the University. She discussed the law school’s recent expansion of public interest law programs and new efforts to recognize students for public service. A new ombudsman program with nursing homes for senior citizens, mediation work with veterans, and work with the Innocence Project are but a few of the new opportunities afforded students, said Williams. The law school has also instituted a new Public Interest Law Certificate for students who elect to pursue the graduation honor.
